LAWRENCE, Kansas - Louisiana Tech overcame freezing temperatures to bang out 11 hits en route to an 8-0 win over Buffalo Sunday at the Kansas Jayhawk Invitational.
Tech (16-13) scored in four of its six at bats and took advantage of four errors by Buffalo and a solid pitching performance by junior Krissi Oliver.
The Lady Techsters jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles by Amberly Waits and Kylie Bassett, capitalizing on a pair of Buffalo errors.
Tech increased its advantage to 4-0 in the bottom of the second inning. With two outs, Emma Barnes singled and then scored on Danielle Sheridan's double to right center. Sheridan would come around to score on a fielding error by Buffalo on a Waits ground ball to second base.
Oliver helped her own cause in the circle in the bottom of the fourth as she singled down the leftfield line to score Regan Clark, making the score 5-0.
Tech scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as the game was called due to the eight-run rule. Back-to-back leadoff doubles by Waits and Clark made the score 6-0. One out later, Jessica Kirby cranked a two-run home run to seal the Tech win.
Oliver (5-6) picked up the win, scattering only five hits in 5.0 innings of action while Meghan Krieg pitched a scoreless frame in relief.
