RUSTON - Senior forward JoKeirra Sneed was one of five Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters to receive awards at the annual Lady Techster Basketball Appreciation Banquet Friday night at the Tech Student Center.
Sneed received two awards as she earned the Most Valuable Player Award and the Rebounding Award. The Belle Glade, Fla. native led Louisiana Tech this season averaging 15.5 points and 10.3 rebounds while shooting 55 percent from the field and 72 percent from the free throw line. She ranked in the Top 15 in the country in rebounding.
Sophomore Shanavia Dowdell earned the Offensive Player of the Year Award after averaging 12.3 points and 7.5 rebounds a contest. Dowdell scored in double figures in 25 of 31 games for the Lady Techsters.
Freshman Tarkeisha Wysinger was named the Defensive Player of the Year for the Lady Techsters. The Many, La. native led Tech in steals during her rookie campaign with 67, ranking among the Western Athletic Conference leaders in that category. Wysinger also drew the toughest perimeter assignments on a nightly basis for Tech.
Freshman Sidney Stewart earned the Academic Award after earning a 3.45 grade point average as an accounting major.
Senior Nastassja Levingston earned the Lady Techster Award, which is given annually to the player that best exemplifies what being a Lady Techster on and off the court is all about.
