TROY, Ala. -- Louisiana Tech soccer (5-2) wasted no time shaking off the last loss and bested Alabama A&M (1-6) by a final score of 5-1 Friday afternoon at the Troy Tournament.
"It was a good win after losing our last game," Tech head coach Kevin Sherry said. "Alabama A&M was a good team, and they were well prepared. We came out focused and trying to correct any mistakes we made in our loss. I give credit to our players."
Tech struck first in the ninth minutes off a goal from freshman Scotti Culton on an assist from freshman Olivia Lukasewich. Culton would score two goals in the first half.
Tech senior Amy Wolsted connected in the eighteenth minute on the second penalty kick the Techsters have converted this season. Culton's second goal of the half came ten minutes later with Kristen Servier getting the assist. Tech took a 3-0 lead into halftime.
A&M finally got on the scoreboard with a 30-yard strike in the fifty-first minute to cut the lead to 3-1. Servier, however, would score for Tech in the sixty-forth minute, while freshman Rachel King scored in the seventieth. Freshman Amy Quintana and sophomore Brooke Lanie were credited for the assists, respectively.
Jean Bernard and Cat Buchanan both spent time in the net for the Techsters at goalie.
"Every player played well for us today," Sherry said. "That was the most pleasing. Everyone played to their capabilities and fought hard from the first minute to the last."
Tech returns to action Sunday at 3 p.m. to take on Troy on the final day of the tournament.
