RUSTON, La.--The Louisiana Tech soccer team will begin a stretch of four games in eight days Tuesday - all on the road - as the Techsters travel to Pine Bluff, Ark., to face UAPB. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Pumphrey Stadium.
The Lady Techsters (2-1) are coming off what might have been the best performance in school history as they defeated Stephen F. Austin 2-0 Friday night at Joe Aillet Stadium. Freshmen Rachel King and Kristen Sevier got their first collegiate goals for the Lady Techsters in the victory, and the Tech defense with freshman keeper Cat Buchanan pitched a shutout for the second straight game. For her efforts, Buchanan was named WAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-1) dropped its season opener at Arkansas State last week by a 7-0 count. The Lady Lions were slated to play a pair of games over the weekend but both were postponed. UAPB finished the 2007 season with a 2-11 overall mark, 0-4 in SWAC play.
Tech is 1-0-1 all-time against UAPB, having won the previous contest by an 8-1 margin in 2005. In that contest, Denise Wilson and Hayley Smith had two goals apiece while Emily Cleaveland, Katherine Peters, Kat McCullough and Candace Novak each scored once. Tech outshot the Lions 32-2 on the day.
This will be Tech's second trip to Pine Bluff. The inaugural team of 2004 made the trip north and came away with a 1-1 draw, the second non-loss in school history.
