Final Stats

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Going up against a much bigger team that hadn't lost a game in their last seven tries, Louisiana Tech was defeated 3-1 at San Jose State on Friday.

San Jose State (7-4-1, 2-0 WAC) wasted no time getting on the board as they scored in the third minute on a header off the fingertips of Tech goalkeeper Cat Buchanan. The header came off of a free kick.

The Spartans second goal came in the 15th minute on an unassisted shot from just outside the penalty box.

"We had to start the game over at 2-0," Tech head coach Kevin Sherry said. "We changed our goalkeeper and the team kept fighting, they never gave up. In my book it was a 1-1 tie, because they had a two goal lead before we changed some things. We changed the formation a bit to counter attack their size. Everyone played a part."

Eighteen minutes after the goalkeeper switch to Aly Dicker, the Lady Techsters scored on a penalty kick by Kat McCullough. It was the Coppell, Texas native's fifth goal of the season and Tech's first in three games. It was also a record 50th goal this season for Tech, breaking the old record of 49 set last season.

With the score 2-1, the Spartans scored their final goal in the 76th minute to take a two-goal lead.

"I'm really proud of the team," Sherry said. "They (SJSU) are a big solid team. After we gave away two early goals, Aly Dicker came in and she was a powerful presence."

McCullough took three of the team's seven shots and the only one that was on goal. SJSU had 15 shots, six on goal.

The Lady Techsters (11-3-1, 0-3 WAC) were without starting defender Chelsea White who came down with the flu.

LA Tech will try to break a three-game losing streak as they play at Fresno State on Sunday at 4 p.m. CT. FSU is now 3-8 overall (1-1, WAC) after losing to New Mexico State 2-0 on Friday.

"I think it will be similar to tonight's game," Sherry said. "Every player here should take something away from this game to make them a better player so they can be ready next time. Gaining experience for the freshmen and sophomores is going to be vital for future games. We are fighting. These girls are fighting every minute."
