Techsters Fall 2-1 to Utah State

Oct. 30, 2009

Final Stats

LOGAN, Utah - In a tightly played game throughout, Louisiana Tech fell to Utah State 2-1 on Friday in Logan, Utah.

Sophomore Rachel King scored the only goal for the Lady Techsters (12-6-1, 1-6 WAC). Her goal in the 65th minute was her 12th of the season and first against a Western Athletic Conference foe. She was assisted by junior Kiva Gresham, her team-leading seventh of the season.

The Aggies took a 1-0 lead on Shantel Flanary's goal in the 37th minute as Tech went into halftime down a goal. After King's goal, Utah State got one of their own 11 minutes later to break the tie and send Louisiana Tech to just their third road loss of the season.

"We were awesome," head coach Kevin Sherry said. "We were the better team in the second half. We had great opportunities and had a great goal. It was just one little mistake at the end with their second goal."

Sophomore Cat Buchanan made her 17th start of the season and saved five while allowing two goals.

Sophomore Scotti Culton led Tech in shots with five, two on goal. Tech as a team took nine shots, four of them on goal. Utah State (9-8-2, 4-2-1 WAC) took 15 shots with seven on goal.

Freshman Mal Feece was the other Lady Techster to record a shot-on-goal. Tech has been used to playing in tightly contested games as this was their 10th game decided by one goal. They are 5-5 in those games.

"The difference between the two teams was not technical or tactical, it was power," Sherry said. "Utah State's power was the difference. They just out-muscled us. Their game is about power and our game is about passing and power won over passing. We are going to continue with our philosophy and we know what we have to work on."

Tech will try to end their season with a win on Sunday at Nevada at 3 p.m. CT.
