Final Stats
RUSTON, La. - Just two days after a 1-0 defeat to open conference play, Louisiana Tech lost another 1-0 game on Sunday to Boise State.
Unlike Friday's game, this was settled in regulation as Eric Parks of Boise State scored the only goal of a game that was delayed an hour and moved to Joe Aillet Stadium due to heavy rain.
"I think that was the best performance that I've ever seen by Louisiana Tech in a conference environment," Tech head coach Kevin Sherry said. "However, the score might not reflect it."
Parks' goal came on a header against Tech goalkeeper Cat Buchanan in the 24th minute.
"Our goalkeeper made one mistake and got punished," Sherry said. "But it's nice to stand here and say just one mistake cost us the game, otherwise we were in the game and could have won it. Normally Boise State, who is an enormous powerhouse, coming in here, we would have never had a chance."
The shots were even at 10 each with the Lady Techsters (11-2-1, 0-2-0 WAC) taking more shots on goal, seven, to the Broncos five. As they did on Friday, Tech appeared to control most of the game in the second half.
Perhaps their best chance to score came in the 66th minute. Sophomore forward Olivia Lukasewich received a great pass and looks to have the defender beat. Bronco goalkeeper Liz Ruiz made a great save, one of her seven for the game, to prevent Tech from tying the contest.
Lukasewich finished with three shots, two on goal. Senior Hikari Kurokawa led the team with three shots, all of them on goal.
The Broncos improved to 6-4-4, 1-1-0 WAC in a game that was played in rain throughout.
Tech will try to shake their two game loosing streak and scoreless streak as they travel to California for a game at San Jose State on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. CST and at Fresno State on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 4 p.m. CST. The Lady Techsters are at home the following weekend as they face Hawaii and New Mexico State.
