LAFAYETTE -- Lipscomb pitcher Christen Campbell pitched a complete-game no hitter to lead her team to a 1-0 victory over Louisiana Tech Saturday morning at the Louisiana Classic.
The Lady Techsters (1-3) then fell 11-0 to 19th ranked UL-Lafayette in the second game of the day.
In the opener against Lipscomb, Campbell allowed only two base runners the entire game on a third inning walk to LA Tech freshman rightfielder Amanda Parsonage and a fifth inning walk to junior catcher Jessica Kirby.
Tech starter Meghan Krieg (0-1) was the tough-luck loser allowing only one run on five hits and three walks while striking out nine in 7.0 innings of work in the circle.
"Meghan did a good job of keeping them off balance," Dawson said. "She had good movement on her pitches and even mixed in some off speed which added to the other team's problems. They got timely hitting in the one inning, but it was enough.
"Offensively, we didn't execute a game plan. We continue to get beat by one thing and in that game it was the change of speed. We have to learn to make adjustments or we will continue to struggle."
The game was 0-0 until the top of the sixth inning when the Bison scored the lone run of the game on a two-out RBI single by Campbell, scoring Abby Keese who had advanced to second base on a wild pitch by Krieg.
Campbell retired Tech in order in the seventh to complete the win.
In game two of the day, UL-Lafayette capitalized on poor defensive play and wildness by the Tech pitchers in the 11-0 win.
The Ragin Cajuns scored three in the first, one in the third, six in the fourth and one in the fifth while limiting the Lady Techsters to only two hits -- both coming in Tech's final at bat.
Tech starter Krissi Oliver (1-2) allowed seven runs -- six earned -- on five hits and three walks in 3.0 innings of action while reliever Jordan Simmons was tagged with four earned runs on three hits and six walks in 2.0 innings of relief.
"I think we were only credited with two errors but we really should have had more than that," Dawson said. "We have to find out what our identity is. The scoreboard keeps telling us that we are not a team. We can't let this happen two days in a row. Right now we are 21 individuals and until we decided to rely on each other and pick each other up, this is what is going to happen."
Kylie Bassett and Jessica Kirby both recorded singles in the bottom of the fifth inning for the only two hits of the game for the Lady Techsters.
Tech returns to action Sunday with a 3 p.m. contest against Nicholls State.
