Adrian Rogers is the only four-year letterwinner on the men's basketball team. For this week's installment of "Five Minutes with a Student-Athlete," we interviewed Boogie and asked him about his life, future and much more.
LATechSports: Where are you from?
Rogers: I am from Houston, Texas.
LATechSports: Do you have a nickname?
Rogers: Yes, I have been known by Boogie since my freshman year of college. In 2002, there was a movie that came out called, "Paid in Full," and there was one particular actor named "Boogie." His character developed several business ideas throughout the film. The nickname was passed onto me because I am always thinking.
LATechSports: What are you majoring in?
Rogers: Sociology
LATechSports: What do you enjoy the most about Tech?
Rogers: I enjoy the environment, getting to know people and having the opportunity to work with children at the Emerson Centre.
LATechSports: What are your plans after college?
Rogers: I would like to work in the oil industry for a year. Then, I would like to go to graduate school to earn a degree in social work.
LATechSports: What is your greatest achievement?
Rogers: I would have to say my perseverance as a basketball player. This is my fourth year on the basketball team and that is something I am proud of.
LATechSports: Who inspires you?
Rogers: Jesus inspires me because he was admired and disliked by many people, but he continued to live his life regardless of the negativity.
LATechSports: What was your first job?
Rogers: I worked as a cashier at a grocery store.
LATechSports: What are your hobbies?
Rogers: I love watching movies and playing paintball.
LATechSports: If you could spend a day with one person, who would it be?
Rogers: I would like to spend one day with Tech President Dr. Reneau to see what kind job tasks he performs on a daily basis.
LATechSports: What is your favorite part of a road trip?
Rogers: I enjoy the trip to our opponents because my teammates and I get to have fun, talk and goof around.
LATechSports: When did you start playing basketball and why?
Rogers: In seventh grade, my mother's boyfriend wanted me to start playing basketball with him. Since then, I have been playing the game.
LATechSports: What is your all-time favorite sports moment?
Rogers: In eighth grade, my junior high school basketball team, Mayde Creek, defeated McMeans Junior High School for the first time in our school's history. Not only did we win in basketball for the first time, but that was our first win in any sport against McMeans. Needless to say, there was a lot of emotion on our behalf once the game ended.
LATechSports: What song or artist do you listen to before a game?
Rogers: I normally put my iPod on shuffle so I listen to several artists before a game. A few of the artists I make sure I listen to are Outkast, Jason Miraz, Kid Rock, Common and Kanye West.
LATechSports: Who do you contribute your success to in basketball?
Rogers: I contribute my success to my mother. She has pushed me to succeed off and on the court.
LATechSports: If you could play professionally for a particular team, who would it be?
Rogers: Houston Rockets
LATechSports: Would you ever do something extreme or adventurous?
Rogers: I think I would try snowboarding. That could be a lot of fun.
LATechSports: Have you ever met a celebrity?
Rogers: I have met Karl Malone and when we played in the Great Alaska Shootout, I saw Sarah Palin and waved.
LATechSports: If you could live anywhere, where would you live?
Rogers: In Houston because it is a diverse area. For my profession, diversity is needed and plus it is my hometown.
LATechSports: What is your favorite movie?
Rogers: Revolver
LATechSports: What is your favorite food?
Rogers: I love Italian food, especially lasagna and spaghetti.
LATechSports: If you could ask the president one question, what would you ask?
Rogers: How much sleep do you actually get?
LATechSports: What was the strangest costume you wore for Halloween?
Rogers: In junior high school, I once wore a Hawaiian shirt and khakis.
LATechSports: If you had the opportunity to live your life to the fullest for only one day, what would you do?
Rogers: I would go see every preacher around me and talk to them about their lives. I would ask them about everything they have been through and how they changed their lives to a life of God.
LATechSports: If you were stranded on a beach, what five things would you need to survive?
Rogers: I would need a Bible to stay close to God. I would want my iPod because I enjoy listening to music. I want to have a laptop to do research and continue to gain knowledge. I would need my cell phone to stay connected to my family and friends. Lastly, I would want a dictionary to expand my knowledge of the English language.
