WACO -- Louisiana Tech pitcher Meghan Krieg recorded her most dominating performance in an already impressive sophomore season as she led the Lady Techsters to a 2-0 win over Rutgers in the second game of the QTI Invitational Friday at Getterman Stadium.
Krieg (4-1) won her fourth straight contest, striking out a career-high 13 batters and allowing only one hit in the complete-game victory. It was Krieg's third shutout in five starts and her strikeout total was the most by a LA Tech pitcher since Lindsey Meadows struck out 15 in a 3-0 win over UMKC on March 19, 2005.
LA Tech (7-6) made the most of only three hits in the game as the Lady Techsters broke a scoreless tie by plating the only two runs of the contest in the top of the third inning.
Danielle Sheridan started the two-out scoring by recording an infield single. After Amberly Waits drew a walk to put runners on first and second, Kylie Bassett lined a single to centerfield that was misplayed resulting in two runs. Bassett was credited with an RBI single on the play as the second run was unearned.
Krieg made the runs stick as she allowed only three base runners the entire game, including walks in the third and fourth innings. The no-hit bid was broken up in the bottom of the fifth inning on a leadoff single to left field by Mandy Craig.
After Craig was sacrificed to second base, Brittney Lindley lined into a double play to third baseman Summer Young to end the inning.
Krieg retired the side in order in both the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings to seal the victory for LA Tech.
Sheridan, Bassett and Jessica Kirby each registered hits in the win.
Tech returns to action Saturday when its faces UL-Monroe at 10 a.m. and 24th ranked Baylor at 3 p.m.
