RUSTON -- Louisiana Tech head coach Quintin Yray is seeing improvements from his Lady Techster team (0-3) despite losing to Alcorn State 5-2.

Scoring for the Techsters Saturday were freshman Maartje de Wit in the four spot and freshman Laura Rodriguez in the six spot. De Wit finished with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 win over Kali Sandoval while Rodriguez finished Denisse Favela 2-6, 6-1 and 10-3.

In doubles competition, de Wit and sophomore Rocio Juarez defeated the team of Sandoval and Martina Garda 8-2.

"All the girls competed very well, with (freshman Laura) Rodriguez showing a lot of character coming back in the match to really dominate in the second set and the third set tie breaker at the No. 6 spot," Yray said. "Freshman Maartje de Wit just played great only losing a game in her match at the # 4 spot. Rocio's match could have gone either way in the No. 3 spot. She was dictating play but came up a bit short on the finishing touches."

Although the Techsters were unable to pick up any other wins, Yray said he is pleased with the improvement and looks forward to the coming matches.

"Mallory played a close first set moving up in her position on the team to the No. 5 spot," Yray said. "The other Tech girls also came up a bit short as well in their matches. I saw some good fighting on the court for the girls which is what I'm after. We must be better competitors in order to win these close matches. I'm looking forward to see the girls back on the court tomorrow."

The Techsters remain at home to take on the Southeastern Lady Lions Saturday, Feb. 8, at 11 a.m. Admission is free.
