WACO -- Rutgers pitcher Nicole Lindley pitched a no-hitter and sister Brittney provided the offense with a two-run home run as the Scarlet Knights defeated Louisiana Tech 4-0 in the final game of the QTI Invitational hosted by Baylor.
Amanda Heller gave Rutgers an early 1-0 advantage with a leadoff home run in the top of the first inning off Tech starter Krissi Oliver. It would be all Nicole Lindley would need.
Tech only threatened in two innings as the Lady Techsters put the first two runners on in the bottom of the first inning as Emma Barnes reached on an error and Danielle Sheridan was hit by a pitch.
However, Lindley retired the next three Techsters in order to end the threat.
The game remained 1-0 until the top of the sixth inning when Rutgers got to Tech reliever Meghan Krieg. Heller singled to open the frame and then with two outs, Brittany Lindley smashed a two-run home run over the fight field wall giving Rutgers a 3-0 lead.
The Scarlet Knights added a single run in the top of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Mandy Craig.
Tech had an opportunity in the bottom of the seventh inning as Elizabeth Franklin, Summer Young and Valerie Quiroga all walked to load the bases with two outs. However, Lindley induced a ground ball by Barnes to third base to end the game.
Oliver (2-6) took the loss, allowing one run on three hits and no walks. Krieg, who entered the game with a 24 inning scoreless streak, allowed three earned runs on five hits and three walks in 4.0 innings of work.
Krieg and junior shortstop Amberly Waits were named to the all-tournament team.
Tech returns to action Wednesday when it travels to Hammond to face Southeastern Louisiana in a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
