LAFAYETTE -- Louisiana-Lafayette scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to blow open a tight game and defeat Louisiana Tech 8-0 in the first game of a softball doubleheader Tuesday.

Tech (12-10) trailed only 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth before the 14th ranked Rajun Cajuns (12-2) capitalized on wildness by Lady Techster starter Meghan Krieg, who walked four batters in the frame before being relieved by Jordan Simmons.

UL-Lafayette starter Donna Bourgeois picked up the win in the circle, allowing only three hits and one walk while striking out eight batters in the complete-game performance.

The Ragin Cajuns scored one unearned run in the second and one earned run in the third to take a 2-0 lead. The Lady Techsters had an opportunity in the top of the fourth inning as Kylie Bassett reached first base after striking out on a wild pitch and then Krissi Oliver singled to shortstop.

With runners on first and second and one out, Jessica Kirby singled down the left field line but Bassett was thrown out at home trying to score. Claire Gibson then grounded out to the pitcher to end the Tech threat with UL-Lafayette still leading 2-0.

Krieg (7-2) picked up the loss, allowing seven runs -- six earned -- on six hits and six walks while striking out five.

Emma Barnes, Kirby and Oliver recorded the only three hits of the game for the Lady Techsters.
