DENTON -- Kylie Bassett and Jessica Kirby both homered and drove in four runs each to lead Louisiana Tech to a 10-2 win over North Texas in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader at Lovelace Stadium Wednesday afternoon.
Bassett was 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI double, a solo home run and a two-run single while Kirby was 2-for-4 with a two-run double and a two-run home run.
The 10 runs tied the single season high by the Lady Techsters as did the 13 hits. The 10 runs were the most given up by North Texas this season as the Mean Green saw its five-game winning streak snapped.
LA Tech (22-18) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Bassett's RBI double and a Claire Gibson bases-loaded walk plated the two runs. The lead was short-lived as North Texas responded in its half of the frame by tying the score on a two-out two-run single by Caitlin Grimes.
The Lady Techsters took a 3-2 lead on a solo home run by Bassett in the top of the third inning.
Tech blew the game open by plating four runs in the fourth inning as Bassett recorded a two-run single and Kirby registered a two-run double making the score 7-2.
The Lady Techsters then added three more in the sixth on a two-run home run by Kirby and a RBI single by Gibson.
Tech starter Meghan Krieg (12-4) picked up the win, allowing two earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out eight batters.
In addition to Bassett and Kirby's impressive days at the plate, Emma Barnes recorded three hits and now only needs 10 more to become the all-time hits leader in Lady Techster history.
Krissi Oliver also recorded multiple hits in the win.
