RENO -- Two costly errors led to six unearned runs in the first inning as Louisiana Tech fell 9-3 to Nevada Friday at Hixson Park as the Wolf Pack extended their home winning streak to 25 games.

A throwing error by Summer Young and a fielding error by Claire Gibson allowed the first two Nevada batters to reach. After starting pitcher Krissi Oliver walked the third batter to load the bases, Nevada's Kelsey Starr blasted a grand slam home run over the left field wall to give the Wolf Pack a 4-0 advantage.

Sam Bias and Sarah Hunt then followed with solo home runs off of Oliver as Nevada took a 6-0 lead.

Tech scored a lone run in the top of the second inning as Oliver walked to lead off the frame and the scored on a single by Jessica Kirby and a fielding error by Nevada outfielder Brittany Puzey.

The Lady Techsters then attempted to make a game of it, plating two more runs in top of the third inning. Emma Barnes singled and advanced to second on a walk by Danielle Sheridan.

Amberly Waits then singled down the left field line, driving in Barnes and cutting the UN lead to 6-2. One out later, Oliver singled to centerfield to score Sheridan and make the score 6-3.

Tech had runners on second and third with only one out, but Kirby grounded out to shortstop and Claire Gibson grounded out to third base to end the Lady Techster threat.

Nevada quickly pushed the advantage back out with a two-run home run by Jessica Haight and an infield single by Puzey.

Nevada starter Katie Holverson (15-6) earned the win, allowing three runs -- two earned -- on five hits and three walks while striking out seven.

Oliver (7-10) was tagged with the loss, allowing nine runs -- three earned -- on nine hits in 3.0 innings of action. Sophomore Wanda Malone came on in relief and held the Wolf Pack scoreless over the final 3.0 innings while allowing only three hits.

Waits led Tech offensively with two hits while Barnes, Oliver and Kirby each registered one hit.

The two teams play a doubleheader Saturday starting at 3 p.m. CDT.
