Dageford Named to NCBWA All-America Team

June 10, 2009

STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Louisiana Tech right fielder Devon Dageford has been named to the Pro-Line Athletic National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division I All-America Second Team, which was announced on Wednesday.

Dageford had a record-setting year for the Bulldogs in 2009. In the NAPA Auto Parts Western Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament, he became LA Tech's single-season home run king after he belted his 22nd long ball of the season. He went on to hit one more and finished the year with 23. He also accumulated 168 bases during the season and shattered the school's previous total bases mark.

The native of Beatrice, Neb. won Tech's version of the Triple Crown as he led the team in batting average (.385), home runs (23) and RBI (68). He also ranked first among his teammates with 59 runs scored, an .862 slugging percentage, three triples and five sacrifice flies. Dageford was just as talented from his right field position as he recorded 95 put outs and five assists. He concluded the year with a .980 fielding percentage.

Dageford is the second Bulldog to receive NCBWA All-American honors. Brian Rike was named to the organization's third team as an outfielder in 2007.

Four players represented the WAC on this year's NCBWA All-America teams. Along with Dageford, Fresno State third baseman Tommy Mendonca received first team honors, New Mexico State shortstop Bryan Marquez was named to the second team and Sacramento State center fielder Tim Wheeler garnered third team honors.

A total of 57 student-athletes were recognized among three All-America teams. Of the 57 standouts, 18 were awarded player of the year honors by their respective conference.

Student-athletes were nominated and voted upon by NCBWA members.
