FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Louisiana Tech had a strong opening on the first day of the Razorback Invitational at the Randall Tyson Track Center highlighted by an all-freshman distance medley relay team placing third.
An all-freshman team of Alwayne Green, Josh Goree, Jermaine Morris and Matt Wolfe ran 10:08.10 in the DMR, topping teams from Ole Miss, Baylor and Arkansas.
Kevin Stewart, a two-time NAIA All-American at MidAmerican Nazarene before he transferred to Tech, was within half a second from an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 200m, running 21.80 to win his heat and finish 12th overall. Terry Carter ran 22.17 to place second in his heat and 25th overall.
On the women's side, Jesseka Jones and Chasidee Lewis-Baker both won their heats of the 200m dash with Jones running 24.97 to place 15th overall and Lewis-Baker running 25.25 to finish 19th overall.
In the field events, Tiana Davis finished fourth in the long jump with a throw of 19' 7.5". Tierah Hall's throw of 43' 11.75" in the shot put placed her ninth while Micarra Vassell's mark of 41' 1.75" placed 11th.
The Razorback Invitational will conclude Saturday with most of the meet's track events taking place as the action gets underway beginning at 11 a.m.
