Lady Techsters Fall to Bulldogs 2-0

Oct. 17, 2010

Box Score

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech took just four shots-on-goal as they fell to Fresno State 2-0 on Sunday at the Lady Techster Soccer Field.

The Lady Techsters fell to 13-5 overall and 3-3 in the Western Athletic Conference. The Bulldogs, with their first win in their last eight matches, improved to 5-8-2 (1-3, WAC).

"It's understandable with the emotional high on Friday," Tech head coach Kevin Sherry said about the exciting 5-4 overtime win over San Jose State. "It happens every time and there is nothing you can do about it. Mentally we were just down. Fresno State was the opposite. They had to win to keep their hopes alive to qualify for the WAC Tournament. They played really hard for each other and pressed for every loose ball. We lost every loose ball and suffered the price as the result. We picked ourselves up a little in the second half, but it was too late, we couldn't get back into."

Fresno State scored their frist goal in the 34th minute as Lauren Lindstrom and Nicole Duff found Bradlee DeShane who scored from 10 yards out.

The second goal was scored by Duff in the 83rd minute. Her initial shot was deflected by the Tech goalkeeper Caitlin Updyke, but Duff stayed with her shot and kicked in the loose ball.

Louisiana Tech was without leading scorer Rachel King for most of the match as she was nursing an injury sustained at the end of Friday's match.

Freshman Taylor Dennis took four shots for Tech, the most on the team, including two shots-on-goal. Tech outshot FSU 9-8, the lowest shot total for the Lady Techsters since Aug. 20 at Stephen F. Austin.

If Tech wasn't coming off such an emotional high after Friday's win, Sherry is certain the outcome would have been different.

"If we would have lost Friday, you would have seen a different team today," Sherry said.

The game was senior Kiva Gresham's final regular season home contest of her career. She was honored prior to the match.

Tech looks for its fourth conference win on Friday at Hawai'i at 7 p.m. Hawaiian time.
