NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Elne Barnard's performance led the Louisiana Tech tennis team at the SFA Invitational on Oct. 1-3.
Barnard defeated Melissa Hadad from Texas State 7-6, 6-3 in the first round of Flight "A" Singles. Barnard then defeated Audrey Leitz from Tyler Junior College 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals before losing to Elisha Gabb from Lee College 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals. Gabb went on to win the "A" singles flight.
"She put up a good fight and had some bad breaks in that match," head coach Quinton Yray. "Overall she did really well."
Junior Melanie Urvoy went 2-2 in Flight "B" Singles, defeating Audrey Tompkins of St. Edwards 6-1, 6-2 and Kwynn Biggs of McNeese State 6-2, 6-3.
Junior Anna Zureck played all of her matches close, but got just one win in her final match of the tournament. Zureck defeated Mary Blacketer of Tyler Junior College 6-5, 7-6 (4).
Tech's doubles teams of Barnard/Urvoy and Zureck/Alena Erofeyeva went a combined 4-3.
The Lady Techsters continue their fall season at the Apache Invitational hosted by Tyler Junior College starting on Friday and running through Sunday.
