RUSTON - Adrienne Johnson scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead four Louisiana Tech players in double figures as the Lady Techsters defeated Arkansas-Monticello 88-65 Tuesday night in exhibition basketball action at the Thomas Assembly Center.

The Lady Techsters shot 48 percent from the field and outrebounded the Division II Cotton Blossoms 55-36 in the victory.

"For the most part, I thought we were okay," said Tech head coach Teresa Weatherspoon. "This gives us an idea of where we are. It gives us an idea of what we need to work on in order to get better. It was good to see them compete and see the difference in intensity level change from practice.

"This also helps us understand our chemistry better as a team. I like to see the balance in scoring; you know you have something special when you have that kind of balance. We can produce offensively from every angle."

Junior college transfer Angie Felton added 15 points and four assists, while Whitney Jones scored 11 points and true freshman Jelena Vucinic added 10 points. Junior college transfer Shantale Bramble-Donaldson scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds in her debut for LA Tech.

"Jelena got her first start and really played under control," Weatherspoon said. "She has probably the best shooter we have on our team. She's just going to get better.

"Angie is a stud. She does all the little things. She distributes, she defends, she can shoot and she can finish. She does a good job of running the point and also scoring for us."

Shantale Bramble-Donaldson for her first Division I game played extremely hard. She rebounds so well and can do so much for us."

Tech raced out to a 14-point lead five minutes into the game behind six points from Johnson and five from Vucinic. Jasmine Bendolph's three-pointer with 14:39 to play in the opening half gave the Lady Techsters a 16-2 lead.

The Lady Techsters pushed the advantage out to as many as 21 on a jumper by Bramble-Donaldson with 7:38 to play in the first half. Tech took a 50-30 lead into the intermission thanks to an offensive onslaught that saw the team record 18 assists on 20 first half buckets.

"We were really sharing the ball; we had great ball movement especially in that first half," Weatherspoon said. "That's a positive we like to see."

The second half proved to be a little more of an even affair as Tech only outscored UAM 38-35 as Weatherspoon was able to play all 12 players on the roster. Tech outshot UAM in the second 20 minutes of play 47 percent to 31 percent.

Tarkeisha Wysinger-Mackey also had a productive night for Tech, scoring nine points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dishing out seven assists while Bendolph added six points and nine assists.

UAM, which hit 13-of-35 three-pointers in the game, was led by Alex Hart with 13 points, Chelsea Johnson with 11 points, Rodneshia Milum with 11 points and Channon Haywood with 10 points.

Tech returns to exhibition play Friday night at 7 p.m. against Oklahoma Panhandle State.
