RUSTON - Louisiana Tech senior forward Adrienne Johnson was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association State Player of the Week Monday following her performances in the Lady Techsters two games last week.
For the week, Johnson averaged 24.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game while shooting 50 percent (18-36) from the field and 87 percent (13-15) from the free throw line.
In Tech's 71-55 win over Western Kentucky, Johnson scored 26 points, grabbed four rebounds and recorded two steals despite the Lady Toppers rotating five players listed at 6-foot-1 or taller against her.
Johnson then followed that performance up with 23 points, five rebounds and two steals in Tech's 59-55 road loss at UALR. In that contest she scored 16 of the first 26 points for the Lady Techsters as she led them back from an early 13-point deficit.
The Franklin native also became the first LA Tech player since Betty Lennox (1999-2000) to start the season with three straight 20-plus point performances.
