RUSTON - Louisiana Tech returns to the floor after 11 days away from competition as the Lady Techsters host Southern Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Thomas Assembly Center on Autograph Day.
The first 400 fans through the Thomas Assembly Center doors will receive a free Lady Techsters schedule poster and following the game, members of the team will return to the floor to sign autographs with fans.
LA Tech is 3-3 on the season after its impressive 69-61 win over Mississippi State in its last game played Dec. 1 in Starkville. The Lady Techsters snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory as head coach Teresa Weatherspoon saw her team play its best half of basketball of the year.
Trailing by eight early in the second half against the Lady Bulldogs, LA Tech scored 49 second half points to hand Mississippi State only its second loss of the year.
Senior forward Adrienne Johnson leads Louisiana Tech in scoring, averaging 22.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game as she ranks 12th in the entire country in scoring.
Whitney Jones, who scored a season-high 20 points in the win over Mississippi State, is averaging 11.5 points per game while Tarkeisha Wysinger-Mackey (8.7 ppg, 7.2 rgp), Jasmine Bendolph (7.0 ppg, 5.3 apg) and Shantale Bramble-Donaldson (6.7 ppg, 6.3 rpg) round out the top five Techster scorers.
Southern was picked as the preseason favorite to win the Southwestern Athletic Conference in the preseason polls and returns the majority of its lineup from last year's team that captured the SWAC regular season and tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
However, the Jaguars are 2-5 on the year and in the midst of a three-game losing streak after its loss at McNeese State Friday night.
First team all-SWAC selection Hannah Kador leads Southern, averaging 11.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while fellow all-conference performer Freda Allen is averaging 6.7 points and 7.0 rebounds a contest.
As a team, Southern is averaging only 54 points per game.
Tech leads the all-time series against the Jaguars 8-1 although Southern is the only current member of the SWAC to have ever defeated the Lady Techsters. Tech is 26-1 all-time against current members of the SWAC including a 79-46 win over Prairie View A&M this year.
The contest can be heard on the LA Tech Sports Network on ESPN 97.7 FM with the pregame show beginning at 1:30 p.m. Fans can also follow all of the action through a subscription to LA Tech All-Access as a video and audio stream of the game will be provided at www.latechsports.com.
