RUSTON, La. - For the second-consecutive season, senior Kiva Gresham and junior Rachel King were selected to the 2010 all-Louisiana Sports Writers Association Women's Soccer Team.
It was the second consecutive season for both Gresham and King to be named to the all-LSWA team. Louisiana Tech and Southeastern Louisiana were the only two schools to have multiple student-athletes earn the honor.
"It is well deserved as they really helped the team achieve great things this year," said head coach Kevin Sherry who's team went 15-6, the best in Tech history. "I am sure they would be the first to pass the award on to the rest of the team because they know the season was a real team effort with everyone playing such an important part."
Gresham, from Albuquerque, N.M., leaves Louisiana Tech as its all-time leader in assists with 20, tied for first in points with 74 and second in goals with 27. An all-Western Athletic Conference performer, Gresham's 12 goals this season tied her for the 28th best mark in the NCAA and her 32 points tied her for the 23rd best in the country. She scored six of her goals in WAC play with three of them, including the game-winning goal, coming in her first-career hat trick during a 5-4 overtime win over WAC Champion San Jose State.
King, from O'Fallon, Mo., continued her stellar career this season as she led the Lady Techsters in goals with a school-record 13, breaking the record she set last season. Her 13 goals also tied for the conference lead. An all-WAC performer, King recorded her third-career hat trick in a 4-0 win over McNeese State this season which capped off a six-goal week for the junior.
The two players combined to make quite a scoring tandem this year. With Gresham and King each having at least 10 goals this season, Tech achieved a rare distinction as one of 21 teams to have two players with at least 10 goals.
Junior defender Scotti Culton received the most votes out of anyone that didn't make it onto the first team. Despite recording five goals and seven assists and being the first Lady Techster ever to be named first-team all-WAC, she was named honorable mention all-LSWA.
She was joined on the honorable mention list by teammate Taylor Dennis. The freshman forward scored seven goals on the season including a hat trick.
LSU junior defender Allysha Chapman was named player of the year while Southeastern Louisiana head coach Blake Hornbuckle was named coach of the year.
The 2010 LSWA All-Louisiana Collegiate Women's Soccer Teams were selected by the state's sports information directors.
