DENVER - Sophomore first baseman Alex Williams has been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter of the Week, respectively, for February 22-28.
The Vick, La. native (Holy Savior Menard Central HS), helped the Bulldogs to a 3-1 record last week. Williams hit a pair of key home runs, including a walk-off shot in the bottom of the 10th inning to defeat McNeese State 8-7. He also delivered a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to help lead Tech to an 8-5 victory in the series finale against McNeese State. On the week, Williams hit .538 (7-for-13) with six runs, seven RBI, two doubles, two walks and a pair of home runs.
This is Williams' first career hitter of the week award and the first for Louisiana Tech this season.
Tech will now get ready to begin a very tough ten game road stint in which the Bulldogs will first travel to Waco, Texas to take on Baylor on Wednesday. Tech will then play a three game series with UT-Pan American over the weekend before coming back to play Baylor on Tuesday March 9. After a few days off LA Tech will then travel to face New Mexico in a four game series beginning on March 12 and will end the road stint on March 17 at Central Arkansas.
