Heptathlon
Samantha Balentine, Hawai'i
On her performance on Wednesday:
"I'm pretty excited. I got a seasonal best in three out of the four events so I'm pretty stoked about it."
On the High Jump:
"High jump was my best event. I cleared 1.73m which helped my ranking for regionals and I almost cleared 1.76 in my last attempt so that was pretty exciting."
Jesseka Jones, Louisiana Tech
On being in the top three going into Thursday:
"Well I kind of expected it because I've been working hard and tightening up some loose screws I have."
On the windy conditions:
"The wind is just not on my side right now. I'm so small, but sometimes the wind gets behind me, so that's great. I've never really competed in the outdoor for the heptathlon so this will be something I'll never forget."
On tomorrow's competition:
"I hope to get a PR in the javelin. That's the main event I've been focusing on. In the long jump I hope to jump 19 feet and take the competition by storm. Then the 800m I just have to run all out until I puke."
Ulrike Hartz, Idaho
On her performance today:
"It went about how I expected. I didn't do as well as I thought I was capable of in a couple of events because I've been dealing with some injuries. But overall I was happy with the way I performed today. Tomorrow I just have to go out and stay consistent with long jump, javelin and 800."
Decathlon
David Deal, Fresno State
On being in the top three heading into tomorrow:
"It feels pretty good since it's my first meet back from injury, so I think I'm doing alright. I'm right where I want to be."
On the windy conditions:
"It didn't really affect us all day until the 400, it was hard to fight through it. But it was nice conditions all around."
Philip Noble, Utah State
On being in the top three going into Thursday:
"It's what I wanted. Tomorrow is my better day, so the fact that I had a good first day, the second day usually works out well for me."
On the windy conditions:
"It didn't affect me as much as I thought. I just had to push a little harder"
Kurt Felix, Boise State
On Day One:
"Overall I felt like it was a good day. I didn't do as well as I would have liked in the long jump and the shot put, but I did come back and run a PR in the 400."
On Expectations for tomorrow:
"I just need to do the same thing that I did today and that's work hard."
On humidity:
"The humidity wasn't a factor for me at all today because I'm from the Islands so I am accustomed to it."
