Louisiana Tech's Tiana Davis Jumps Into NCAA Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Tiana Davis carried the banner for Louisiana Tech Thursday, becoming the first LA Tech athlete to advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. this season, jumping a personal best 20' 5" and recording the second-longest long jump in school history as action got underway at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships.

Davis finished 11th in the qualifying round of the long jump after entering the weekend ranked 48th in the region with 48 athletes qualifying in each event. Davis will compete in the semifinals at the NCAA Championships on June 9-13 on the University of Oregon campus.

Albert Fullwood shattered his own school record in the 400m opening round, running two-tenths of a second faster with a time of 46.10. A Shreveport native, Fullwood is one of 24 athletes advancing to Friday's quarterfinals where the top 12 will advance to Eugene.

All three Lady Techsters competing in the women's 100m dash advanced to Friday's quarterfinal rounds with Chasidee Lewis-Baker leading the way with a personal best time of 11.47, finishing 14th overall in the opening round. Quanisha Sales, who won the WAC title in the 100m and 200m dashes, ran 11.48 to finish 15th while Chelsea Hayes ran a personal-best time of 11.61, beating out Georgetown's Amanda Kimbers for the final spot in Friday's quarterfinals. Hayes also finished 21st in the long jump with a mark of 19' 8".

Kamelia Stroy came close to a personal record, winning her heat of the 400m with a season best time of 53.47 and advancing to the quarterfinal round. Lashannda Worthy ran 54.92 to finish 34th while Monique Wright finished 38th with a time of 55.30.

In the 400m hurdles, Wade MaGaha fell four spots shy of advancing to Friday's quarterfinal round, running 52.45 to finish 28th overall. Marcelles Atkinson ran 56.03 to place 42nd. On the women's side, Shante Benion ran 1:02.39 to finish 45th.

Kevin Stewart fell just shy of advancing to the quarterfinal round, running 10.46 and placing 24th overall.

Friday's action starts early for the Tech men as Justin Martin and Larry Jones compete in the javelin at 10 a.m. ET/9 a.m. CT before a long break in the action. The next Tech event Friday will be the 110m hurdles opening round at 4:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. CT.
