RUSTON--Louisiana Tech's Clint Ewing and Devon Dageford were both named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic all-District VI team with Ewing earning first team honors and Dageford second team.
"These are two hard working young men and two great ball players," Tech head coach Wade Simoneaux said. "Both these guys come in and work hard every day and are deserving of any honor they receive. I'm very proud to see Clint (Ewing) and Devon (Dageford) recognized for their efforts in the classroom and happy to see it paying dividends. "
For earning first team honors Ewing will now be placed on the Academic all-American ballot. The junior catcher from Shreveport, La. has been solid for the Bulldogs all season behind the plate and has recorded nine homeruns and 39 RBI to this point in the season. Earlier this season Ewing made history as he became the first player ever to hit a homerun at the Twin's new Target Field in a 9-1 win over Minnesota on March 27. In addition to his success on the field this season Ewing has also excelled off the field as he currently holds an amazing perfect 4.0 GPA in civil engineering.
Dageford adds another accolade to his long list of accomplishments he has earned in just his two years at Louisiana Tech. The senior outfielder out of Beatrice, Neb. was named NCBWA Pre-Season first team all-American before this season started. Dageford was also tabbed as one of thirty student-athletes to be candidates for the 2010 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award for excelling in the classroom, community, character and competition before being selected as one of the nation's top 10 Division 1 senior baseball players by Baseball the Magazine (Issue coming out at end of May) in addition to his recent second team academic all-district selection. The rightfielder continues to produce another successful season for the Bulldogs this year as he leads the team with 13 homeruns and is tied for second on the team with 42 RBI. Dageford has accomplished all of this while maintaining a 3.49 GPA as a finance major.
Fans have the opportunity to catch Ewing, Dageford and the rest of the Bulldog baseball team in action this weekend as they host WAC foe Sacramento State at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park with first pitch set for 6 p.m. CT on Friday, Saturday's double-header starting at 1 p.m. CT and the final game of the series also beginning at 1 p.m. CT Sunday.
