Tech Media Relations Captures Five Awards in State Contest

June 28, 2010

RUSTON - Members of the Louisiana Tech Media Relations Department took home five awards at the annual Louisiana Sports Writers Association contest, the second most in the state behind only LSU.

The department took home two second place awards and two third place awards along with one honorable mention award.

Associate Athletics Director Malcolm Butler captured three awards as his women's basketball game notes for the Lady Techsters NCAA Tournament game against Florida State won second place in the state. LSU Associate AD Michael Bonnette captured first place with his game notes for the Tigers football game against Alabama this past season.

Butler also received a pair of third place awards for his football media guide (Division I) and his women's basketball media guide (Division III). In the Division I category, the LA Tech football media guide finished behind only LSU's men's basketball and LSU's football guides.

In the Division III category, his women's basketball media guide finished behind LSU's softball media guide and women's basketball media guide.

Associate Media Relations director Patrick Walsh captured a second place award in the Division V media guide category. LSU's swimming and diving media guide won first. It was the first award ever won by the LA Tech track and field guide.

Assistant media relations director Steven Schoon earned an honorable mention award for his men's basketball media guide in the Division I category.

All of Louisiana Tech's media guides are designed by Donnie Bell Designs, Inc., a local graphic design company in Ruston owned by the University alum.

Photographers Donny Crowe, Tom Morris, Darrell James, Matt Lange and Donald Page contributed the majority of images used in all of the guides.
