RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech will attempt to rebound from a season-opening loss on Friday with another road match, at Lamar on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Tech (0-1) is coming off a 2-1 loss at Stephen F. Austin on Friday. It was a game in which the Lady Techsters missed some scoring opportunities to put the game away after grabbing an early 1-0 lead. Freshman Taylor Dennis scored the lone Tech goal on an assist from junior Scotti Culton in the seventh minute of the contest.
Lamar will open their season on Sunday with 12 letterwinners returning from a season in which they were 4-13-1. One of the 13 losses came in Ruston, when the Lady Techsters beat the Cardinals 3-2 in double overtime to open the 2009 season.
"They are very good up and coming team," head coach Kevin Sherry said of Lamar. "They are going to be a real surprise to most people in this region."
The Cardinals have recruited well over the offseason including quality players from England. Like Tech, Lamar is entering its second season of playing on a new soccer field.
"They get good crowds at their stadium so it will be a really tough game for us," Sherry said.
After Sunday's match, Tech will have four days to prepare for their home opener against Sam Houston State on Friday at 5 p.m.
