Johnson Named WAC Player of the Week, Again

Jan. 31, 2011

DENVER - Louisiana Tech senior forward Adrienne Johnson has been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 24-30. This is the third WAC Player of the Week honor of the season for Johnson and the seventh of her career.

A Franklin, La. native, Johnson led LA Tech to a pair of WAC road wins at Idaho (63-56) and Boise State (93-86) to remain unbeaten in conference play. She averaged 22.5 points on 58 percent shooting and 8.0 rebounds per game in the two wins.

Johnson began the week by recording her eighth double-double of the season with 24 points and 10 rebounds as LA Tech handed the Vandals just their second home loss of the year. She then scored 21 points and grabbed six rebounds in Tech's 93-86 win over Boise State. Winners of eight straight, the Lady Techsters are currently 28th in RPI.

Johnson's seven WAC Player of the Week awards is second most in the history of the program, only one behind former frontcourt teammate Shanavia Dowdell's eight. It also ties her for the fifth most ever by any player in WAC history.

Johnson will lead the Lady Techsters (15-5, 7-0 WAC) into this Saturday's showdown with Fresno State (15-6, 6-1) at the Thomas Assembly Center at 7 p.m. For ticket information, call 318-257-3631 or email techtickets@Latech.edu. All tickets are only $5.
