HONOLULU - Following its 35-point win over San Jose State in its Western Athletic Conference opener, Louisiana Tech returns to the hardwood Saturday night to face Hawaii at 9 p.m. CT at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Lady Techtsers (9-5, 1-0 WAC) lead the all-time series against Hawaii (6-8, 0-1) by a 22-3 margin, including a 12-2 mark on the Island.
Tech opened the conference season by defeating San Jose State 69-34 Thursday night while Hawaii fell at home to New Mexico State 74-58. The 34 points was the fewest allowed by a LA Tech team since it held Nicholls State to 33 in a win on Nov. 26, 2008.
The Lady Techsters are in the midst of a 10-day road trip as LA Tech will travel to Fresno State following its contest against Hawaii where it will face the Bulldogs Thursday (Jan. 13).
Tech continues to lead the WAC in scoring defense, holding opponents to 59.4 points per game while also ranking first in scoring margin at +9.5 points per game.
All-American candidate Adrienne Johnson recorded her 13th double digit scoring game of the year in the win over San Jose State, totaling 16 points while adding six rebounds, four steals and three blocks. Johnson is among the nation's leaders in scoring, averaging 21.1 points per game.
Senior guard Whitney Jones added 11 points in the win and became the 40th player in Lady Techster history to join the 1,000-point club.
Hawaii is led by true freshman forward Kamilah Jackson, who is the lone player in the WAC averaging a double double. Jackson is averaging 13.8 points and 11.7 rebounds per game and already totaled one game this year where she scored 31 points and tied the league single game record with 25 rebounds.
Senior guard Keisha Kanekoa is averaging 12.9 points per game while leading the team with 48 assists and 22 steals.
The Rainbow Wahine already posted an impressive non-conference win over Ole Miss earlier this season and have played 12 of their first 14 games at home.
The contest can be heard on the LA Tech Sports Network on ESPN 97.7 FM with the pregame show beginning at 8:30 p.m. CT.
