Techsters Sign Duo of Guards
RUSTON - Louisiana Tech head coach Teresa Weatherspoon added a little size to her signing class Thursday with the addition of 6-foot-2-inch forward Veanca Hall (Monroe, La./Richwood HS).
"We wanted to get bigger," Weatherspoon said. "It's a good thing for us. She's another local kid which is very important. Veanca brings a lot to the painted area. She has great length and she runs the floor like a guard. She can really cause other teams issues in the paint by misdirecting shots. She is just another wonderful young lady that is now a part of our program."
Hall enters her senior season at Richwood High School where she helped lead the Rams to the District 2-3A title and the state playoffs last season. As a junior, she averaged 19.8 points. 15.1 rebounds and 4.9 blocks per game while earning honorable mention all-state honors. She is a two-time all-district selection.
"Veanca is very coachable," said Richwood coach Kristy Mason. "From an athletic perspective, she is agile and versatile. She knows and understands her role, and makes proper adjustments in the game She is team player; very humble. She gives her best on and off the court. She is the epitome of a team player."
Hall is ranked as the 48th best power forward in the country and the 251st best player overall by Dan Olsen's Collegiate Basketball Report. Her versatility is illustrated by the fact she competes in the high jump, long jump, triple jump and hurdles for the Richwood track and field team.
"I fell in love with the coaching staff and players when I went on my visit," Hall said. "Louisiana Tech is a great place. It has a tremendous reputation academically. I just think it's a good fit for me."
