BATON ROUGE - True freshman Erin Kipp pitched a complete-game victory while Janna Frandrup and Allie Geisler provided the offense as Louisiana Tech defeated Bowling Green 4-1 in the season opener in the first game of the LSU Tiger Classic.
Kipp (1-0) picked up the win in impressive fashion, scattering five hits while striking out four and walking none.
Bowling Green took an early 1-0 lead as Erika Stratton led off the bottom of the second inning with a double before giving way to pinch runner Lindsay Arney, who promptly stole third base. Arney then scored the game's first run on a sacrifice fly by Andrea Arney, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
LA Tech answered quickly, plating three runs in the top of the third inning. Christina Gamboa drew a one-out walk and stole second base before Frandrup belted a 2-2 offering over the left field wall, giving the Lady Techsters a 2-1 advantage.
One out later, Geisler worked a 3-1 count before blasting a solo home run over the left centerfield fence as Tech upped its advantage to 3-1.
The scored remained the same until the top of the seventh when freshman Tricia Van Winkle recorded her first collegiate hit. Pinch runner Rachel Allday advanced to second on an illegal pitch and then to third on a wild pitch.
After Kendra Harmon drew a two-out walk and gave way to pinch runner Charday Wilson, the Lady Techsters executed the double steal as Allday crossed the plate with an insurance run, making the score 4-1.
Kipp worked the seventh, surrendering only a one-out single.
Geisler led Tech offensively with two hits while Frandrup, Heather Doiron and Van Winkle added the other hits.
Tech plays LSU today at 3 p.m.
