STARKVILLE, Miss. - Sophomore Michelle Jones seven strong innings and freshman Cassie Krieg drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning to lead Louisiana Tech to a 3-2 win over Butler Saturday afternoon at the Mississippi State Bulldog Round Robin.

With the two teams tied at 2-2 heading into the top of the seventh, Molly Goza reached on a fielding error and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After freshman Tricia Van Winkle successfully sacrificed Goza to third, Krieg registered an infield single to second base, scoring Goza with the go-ahead run.

Jones (1-1) allowed a single and a walk in the bottom of the frame, but got Kayla Gray to ground out to Goza at third base for the final out of the game.

After both teams played a scoreless three innings, Tech took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning as Charday Wilson and Janna Frandrup both singled to put runners on first and second with no outs. Wilson and Frandrup then successfully completed a double steal to move up a base before Meghan Knowles drove home the first run of the game with an RBI groundout.

Heather Doiron then made the score 2-0 with an RBI single to left centerfield.

Jones cruised through four innings until Butler finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth frame. J. Huey led the frame off with a solo home run to left centerfield, cutting the LA Tech advantage to 2-1. After a walk and a pair of sacrifice bunts move A. Coleman to third base with two outs, Kayla Gray singled to tie the game at 2-2, setting up Krieg's game-winning hit in the seventh.

Jones picked up the win, allowing only two earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two in the complete-game performance.

Frandrup led Tech offensively with a pair of hits while Kendra Harmon, Wilson, Doiron and Krieg each recorded one hit. Knowles, Doiron and Krieg picked up the RBIs.

Techsters return to action Sunday although an opponent and a game time are not yet known.
