RUSTON - Louisiana Tech's women's tennis team remained undefeated at home with its 4-3 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday.
"We played some tough matches today," said head coach Quintin Yray. The girls gave it their best and it paid off. This was a big win."
Tech (3-2) started the day with a win in doubles as Elne Barnard and Anna Zurek defeated Mia Hagiu and Laura Verges 8-4 in the No. 1 position. Following an 8-0 loss by Tech's No. 3 tandem of Alena Erofeyeva and Sophie Heldoorn, the Lady Techsters needed the No. 2 doubles team of Melanie Urvoy and Maartje de Wit to come through. They defeated Audrey Chelini and Raissa Dias 9-7 to capture the doubles point.
Zurek improved to 4-1 on the season with a 6-4, 6-2 win in No. 2 singles over Verges. In No. 3 singles, Urvoy won 6-4, 6-0 over Dias and in No. 5 singles, Alena Erofeyeva improved to 4-1 with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Schmied.
Tech's No. 1 singles player, Barnard, won the first set 6-4 over Chelini, but then lost the next two sets (6-2, 6-4) to fall in a hard fought match.
Louisiana Tech will next play at Northwestern State on Feb. 26 with the match starting at 2:30 p.m. CT.
