RUSTON -
The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced today that Louisiana Tech senior forward Adrienne Johnson has been added to the 2010-11 State Farm Wade Trophy Watch List.
Johnson joins Iowa State's Kelsey Bolte as the duo are the final two additions to a prestigious list of 34 players, who are under consideration for the State Farm Wade Trophy - the Division I women's basketball equivalent of college football's Heisman Trophy®.
Johnson, a 6-foot senior forward, is averaging 21.9 points and 9.5 rebounds per game for the Lady Techsters while leading the team to a 21-5 record and a perfect 13-0 mark in the Western Athletic Conference.
She has scored 20 or more points in 16 games, including a season-high 36 points against Utah State. Johnson is a two-time All-WAC and WAC All-Defensive selection has been named WAC Player of the Week five times so far this season. She ranks among Louisiana Tech's al-time leaders in scoring (1,852 points), rebounding (883), steals (179) and blocks (150).
Johnson would be the fourth LA Tech player to ever win the Wade Trophy, joining Pam Kelly (1982), Janice Lawrence (1984) and Teresa Weatherspoon (1988).
State Farm and the Wade Trophy Coalition each year present The State Farm Wade Trophy to the nation's most outstanding NCAA® Division I women's basketball player - one who not only excels athletically but also serves as a positive role model both on and off the court.
The acclaimed Wade Watch list, from which The State Farm Wade Trophy recipient is chosen, is composed of players selected on the basis of game and season statistics, leadership, character, effect on their team and overall playing ability.
The State Farm Wade Trophy Committee will trim the Watch list to 12 finalists in mid-March. State Farm and the Wade Trophy Coalition will officially announce the State Farm Wade Trophy winner during the WBCA National Convention, held in conjunction with the NCAA® Women's Final Four® in Indianapolis.
