HAMMOND - Louisiana Tech lost a couple of 3-2 contests to Southeastern Louisiana Saturday afternoon in Hammond as the Lady Techsters led in both games before watching the Lions fight from behind.
In the first game of the day, Tech (8-21) took an early 2-0 lead plating two runs in the top of the first inning as Kendra Harmon and Janna Frandrup singled and advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. Meghan Knowles then singled to left field to score both runners as the Lady Techsters jumped out on top.
Tech maintained its 2-0 lead behind the strength of the right arm of ace Meghan Krieg in the circle. Krieg (4-11) cruised through the first four innings before the Lions finally struck in the bottom of the fifth inning.
After recording the first out, Krieg hit a batter and walked the next to put runners on first and second. Krieg then retired the second out before giving up a three-run home run to Kelsey Nichols over the left field wall as Southeastern took a 3-2 lead.
Tech threatened in the top of the sixth inning as Christina Gamboa drew a two-out walk and Michelle Jones followed with a single. However, Harmon popped up to shortstop for the final out of the frame.
Kati Morse (2-4) then retired the Lady Techsters in order in the top of the seventh inning to seal the win.
Krieg took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five in the complete-game performance.
Jones led Tech with two hits while Harmon, Frandrup, Knowles and Goza each registered one hit.
In the second game of the day, Erin Kipp was solid in the circle tossing seven shutout innings but the Lady Techsters couldn't manage a run as the Lions won it 3-2 in nine innings.
Offensively, Tech led the game off with a single by Harmon and then failed to register a hit the rest of the contest off Southeastern starter Jessie Brown.
With the two teams scoreless heading into the top of the eighth inning, Heather Doiron was placed on second base using the international tiebreaker rule. Doiron advanced to third on a passed ball and then scored on a wild pitch as the Lady Techsters led 1-0.
In the bottom of the frame, Tech was one out away from the victory before Katie Mathews singled to score the tying run and send the contest into another frame.
In the top of the ninth, the Lady Techsters plated one run as Harmon scored on an RBI groundout by Janna Frandrup as Tech grabbed the 2-1 advantage.
However, Southeastern plated two runs in the bottom of the inning on a pair of RBI singles.
Kipp (1-5) took the loss, allowing three runs - one earned - on nine hits and two walks while striking out four in 8.1 innings of action.
Tech returns to action Wednesday when the Lady Techsters host McNeese State in a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
