DENTON - Louisiana Tech was one out away from a win over UTEP Saturday morning at the North Texas Courtyard Classic but the Lady Techsters watched the Miners score five runs to send the game into extra innings where they eventually won 13-9.
LA Tech fell 8-0 to Ole Miss in six innings in the second game of the day in six innings.
Tech (5-15) led 9-4 with two outs in the top of the seventh inning of game one of the day when the Miners began their rally against Lady Techster starter Erin Kipp. Chelsea Troupe began the 11th hour rally with a two-run home run, cutting the Tech lead to 9-6.
Kayleigh Walts then singled. Courtney Ware followed with a ground ball to shortstop that freshman Emma Eichmann couldn't handle as Ware reached on the error. Becky Smith then tripled to right field, driving home two and making the score 9-8.
Michelle Jones then relieved Kipp and had two strikes on Samantha Alvillar before the freshman infielder singled up the middle, tying the game at 9-9.
Tech had an opportunity to win the game in the seventh as Cassie Krieg drew a two-out walk and Janna Frandrup followed with a single, putting runners on first and second. However, Meghan Knowles then popped out to second to end the threat.
In the top of the eighth inning, UTEP scored four runs on only two hits. Tech went down in order in the bottom of the frame as the Miners recorded the win.
Offensively, Tech was led by Frandrup and Doiron with two hits while Kendra Harmon, Krieg, Molly Goza and Christina Gamboa each registered one. Gamboa had two RBI while Goza added one.
Jones picked up the loss, allowing four runs on three hits and one walk in 1.1 innings of action.
In the second game of the day, Ole Miss capitalized on three Tech errors as the Rebels run-ruled the Lady Techsters.
Ole Miss scored two in the first, four more in the fifth and two in the sixth while the Lady Techsters couldn't scratch despite putting 10 runners on base in the game.
Meghan Krieg (1-8) took the loss, allowing eight runs - only four earned - on nine hits and four walks while striking out six in 5.1 innings of action.
Offensively, Doiron recorded two more hits while Gamboa, Frandrup, Goza, Cassie Krieg and Knowles each registered one hit.
Tech completes action in the tournament Sunday when they face North Texas at 3 p.m.
