RUSTON - Louisiana Tech's first-ever soccer festival is quickly approaching as it will take place on Saturday, April 30 at the Louisiana Tech Soccer Complex.
The event is yet another free service put on by the Louisiana Tech women's soccer team with the intention of promoting the sport of soccer in the Ruston community. The Lady Techster program already offers free soccer clinics and has also created the Ruston Soccer Club.
It starts at 10 a.m. with a skill session and warm up period with the Lady Techsters. At 10:30 a.m., the 4v4 tournament begins with the following age groups: boys and girls ages 7-9, 10-11, 12-13 and high school. There is also a parent's exhibition that will take place during the lunch break at approximately 12:30-1. The ending time for the event varies and is based on the number of players. All participants are requested to stay for the entirety of the event.
Not every activity will be a regular 4v4 game however, as there will be sumo soccer, soccer bowling and three-legged soccer races.
There will be a concession stand on hand as selling grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, homemade baked goods, popcorn and snow cones. Lady Techster soccer shirts will also be sold.
There will be prizes given away for the top two teams in each division as well as correct answers to soccer and Lady Techster trivia.
Pre-registration is requested in order to have adequate time to place individuals on a team. Everyone is assigned individually to a team by the Tech coaching staff. Those interested in participating should email either assistant coach, Chelsea Stewart at cstewart@latech.edu or Kat McCullough at kmm035@latech.edu, with your name and age. The deadline for pre-registration is Wednesday, April 27. If you miss the deadline, participants can register in person at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 30.
Due to home baseball and softball games on Saturday, all participants are encouraged to park in the parking lot next to Joe Aillet Stadium and use caution when crossing Alabama Street. There will be no athletic trainer on site and participants will be playing at their own risk.
