Techsters Finish 1-2 in Hawai'i

HONOLULU - Louisiana Tech defeated Chaminade in women's tennis, but dropped two Western Athletic Conference matches over the weekend in Honolulu, Hawai'i.

The Lady Techsters started the three matches in three days trip with a 6-1 win over Chaminade on Friday. It was Tech's fourth straight win of the season.

Elne Barnard (No. 1), Vivian ten Dolle (No. 2), Melanie Urvoy (No. 3), Alena Erofeyeva (No. 5) and Anna Zurek (No. 6) all recorded wins over the Silver Swords in singles. Tech also captured the doubles point with wins by the ten Doll/Maartje de Wit duo as well as the pair of Urvoy/Erofeyeva.

On Saturday, the Lady Techsters played their second WAC match of the season and fell to Idaho 5-2.

The only wins for Tech came from Barnard and ten Dolle. Barnard's match against Victoria Lozano went down to the final set as Barnard pulled out the No. 1 singles win 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. In No. 2 singles, ten Dolle defeated Silvia Irimescu 6-3, 6-4.

Louisiana Tech concluded play on the island with a 7-0 loss to Hawai'i. No. 3 singles was the only match that went three sets as Hawai'i's Natasha Zorec defeated Urvoy 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4).

The Lady Techsters left Hawai'i with a record of 8-6 overall and 0-3 in the WAC. They resume play on Wednesday with a home match against Jackson State at 3 p.m. at the Louisiana Tech Tennis Complex.
