Johnson received her two plaques after leading Louisiana Tech in both scoring at 22.0 points per game and rebounding at 9.4 rebounds per contest during the year. The Franklin native scored in double figures in 31 of 32 games while scoring 20 or more points on 21 occasions. She also registered 15 double doubles.
Wysinger-Mackey was Tech's top defensive player during the year, ranking second on the team with 52 steals while always drawing the toughest defensive assignment on the perimeter. The Many native played 40 or more minutes 10 times during the year, including a program record 51 minutes in the triple overtime win over Fresno State.
Young earned the Academic Award after registering a 3.83 grade point average during the fall and winter quarters, including a perfect 4.0 gpa in the fall quarter. On the court, she played a huge role in Tech's success.
Vucinic received the Lady Techster Award which goes to the player that best exemplifies the essence of what being a Lady Techster is all about. The freshman guard showed incredible work ethic on the floor every day in practice despite limited playing time while also proving to be a role model off the floor.
Former Lady Techster Janet Karvonen was the featured speaker at the event as she talked about her days in Ruston and how it shaped her life. Karvonen, who transferred to LA Tech from Old Dominion in 1983, told stories of her two years as a Lady Techster, including the one year as a teammate with Weatherspoon.
Karvonen, a mother of four who now resides back in her native state of Minnesota, runs her own basketball camps for young girls and is currently going to seminary school.
