Game 9 (Jackson State)
RUSTON, La. - After playing to a draw Friday against Stephen F. Austin, the Louisiana Tech soccer team travels to play Jackson State Sunday afternoon with kickoff set for 4 p.m. at JSU Soccer Complex. The game is the first of four straight for the Lady Techsters on the road, the most in a row since the 2008 season.
Confidence is high for the team after the 1-1 tie against the Ladyjacks.
"We are hoping to take the confidence from the Stephen F. Austin game and put it towards the Jackson State game and play well," said junior Lindsay Brough (Salt Lake City, Utah).
Tech enters the Sunday matchup with an overall record of 4-1-3. The three ties are the most for the program in a single season since the 2008 when that team had five draws.
After holding the opposing teams scoreless for over three games, the Lady Techsters allowed their first goal in 367:50 after SFA headed the ball into the goal 25:57 into the first half. The goal ended Tech's shutout streak at three games and was the first goal allowed at home this season.
The Lady Techsters are lead offensively by senior Olivia Lukasewich (Woodbridge, Ontario) with three goals and seven points. She is the only Lady Techster to score in multiple games this season. Sophomore Taylor Dennis (Albuquerque, N.M.) leads the team with three assists and is tied with fellow classmate Emily Brennan (Plano, Texas) for second on the team in points with five apiece.
Starting every game in goal for Tech this season has been sophomore Caitlin Updyke (Broomfield, Colo.). She has stopped 22 shots and enters the game against the Tigers with a 0.37 goals against average. With one more shutout this season, Updyke will become the program's all-time leader passing teammate senior Cat Buchanan (Shawnee, Kan.).
Jackson State
JSU leads the series over the Lady Techsters 1-0 after winning in 2-0 in 2004.
The Tigers enter the contest with a 0-3-0 record after dropping games to Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Northwestern State.
Even though JSU is winless, they are still a dangerous team after making the NCAA Tournament last season.
"Any team that plays in the NCAA Tournaments needs to be respected," said head coach Kevin Sherry. "This is our second tough game of the weekend and if we are not at our best we are going to be punished."
In their three games JSU has taken a total of 18 shots with 15 of them being on goal. Liana Knight has taken six of the team's shots and all of her shots have been on goal.
Taylor Emerson has started all three games in goal and has been credited with 20 saves.
The Tigers are coached by Niji Olagbegi and is in his 10th year leading the program.
