HUNTSVILLE, Texas - On Sunday afternoon the Louisiana Tech soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against Sam Houston State at Pritchett Field. For the third time this season the Lady Techsters played to a scoreless draw, the most in a single season.
"After a heartbreaking loss on Friday in overtime, the team responded with real heart today against a strong and well coached team," said head coach Kevin Sherry.
LA Tech's record is now 5-2-4 on the year while the Bearkats are 3-6-1.
Both teams had six shots on goal but the Lady Techsters outshot SHSU 17-13. Senior Olivia Lukasewich (Woodbridge, Ontario) paced the team with four shots while senior Rachel King (O'Fallon, Mo.) and freshman Abby Sentz (Kingwood, Texas) had three shots apiece. The only other Tech player to take multiple shots was senior Scotti Culton (Waterloo, Ill.) with two shots.
"We missed five open goals but you can't fault the team because we do not have any strikers this year," Sherry said.
Sophomore Caitlin Updyke (Broomfield, Colo.) recorded six saves in her seventh shutout of the year that ties her own record for the most in a season that she set in 2010.
For the Bearkats, Jessica Toms and Paige Rodriguez had four shots each with three of Toms' shots being on goal. Playing in goal was Mallory Garthwaite who stopped six shots.
The Lady Techsters return to action on Friday as they travel back to Texas to face Prairie View A&M. The next LA Tech home game is Sunday against Southeastern Louisiana.
