Final Stats
THIBODEAUX, La. - Louisiana Tech's tennis team won their second game in two days on the road with a 5-2 victory over Nicholls State Sunday morning at the Colonel Tennis Complex.
With the victory, the Lady Techsters improve to 9-3 on the year while the Colonels drop to 5-8.
Tech began the doubles competition up 1-0 before the first serve as Nicholls only fielded five players for the match and had to forfeit the No. 6 singles match.
Needing to win only one doubles matches to clinch the point, the No. 2 duo of senior Maartje de Wit and junior Vivian ten Dolle came through with an 8-2 win over Marina Ljoshevska and Marie Aubert.
At the No. 1 position, seniors Elne Barnard and Anna Zurek battled Parija Maloo and Janna Leeuwerik but the Colonels came away with a 9-7 victory.
In singles competition, Nicholls tied the match 2-2 as Maloo defeated freshman Laura Fernandez (6-1, 6-0) at the No. 1 flight and Aubert downed ten Dolle (6-2, 6-2) at No. 2 spot.
Barnard lost the first set but came back to win the next two sets to defeat Catherine Gauthier (1-6, 6-3, 6-0) at the No. 3 position. Junior Alena Erofeyeva copied Barnard in dropping the first set but coming back to win (0-6, 6-3, 6-0) in the No. 4 flight against Leeuwerik. Erofeyeva improved to 12-0 in the spring and clinched the match for Tech.
De Wit finished the day off with another three-set win for the Lady Techsters as she defeated Ljoshevska (6-1, 2-6, 7-6) in the No. 5 match.
Louisiana Tech travels to the state of Utah next weekend for two matches with the first against Western Athletic Conference opponent Utah State at 11 a.m. CT.
