Final Stats
LOGAN, Utah - In the first of two games in Utah this weekend, the Louisiana Tech tennis team fell 6-1 to Western Athletic Conference opponent Utah State Saturday afternoon at the Logan Sports Academy and Racquet Club.
The defeat drops the Lady Techsters to 9-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play while the Aggies are now 6-6 and 1-0 in the WAC.
Starting match off was the duo of junior Alena Erofeyeva and freshman Laura Fernandez as they won 8-3 over Monica Abella and Kimberly Watts in the No. 3 position. Utah State would win the other two doubles contests though to win the doubles point.
Tech saw the Aggies quickly take a 3-0 lead in the competition winning the No. 2 and 3 singles matches. Fernandez battled at No.1 but fell to Jaci West in two-sets (7-6, 7-5) which clinched the contest for Utah State.
Senior Maartje de Wit won the Lady Techsters only point of the day at the No. 5 position with a three-set, comeback victory (2-6, 6-4, 10-4) over Abella. Senior Anna Zurek almost won a second point for LA Tech at No. 6 after spliting the first two sets with Julie Tukuafu but fell short in the third set (7-5, 3-6, 11-9).
Erofeyeva dropped her first singles match of the spring after winning her first 12 contest to Romina Nedakovic (7-6, 6-2) in two sets.
Louisiana Tech continues their trip in Utah Sunday morning at 11 a.m. CT against Weber State.
