RUSTON, La. -Louisiana Tech's tennis team defeated Southern Miss 6-1 Saturday at the Lady Techster Tennis Complex in the second of three weekend matches at home this weekend.
The Lady Techsters improve to 6-3 on the year while the Golden Eagles are now 1-8.
Starting in doubles action, the team of seniors Elne Barnard and Anna Zurek defeated Frances Askew and Kate Lanier 8-4 at the No.1 position. Senior Maartje de Wit and junior Vivian ten Dolle clinched the doubles point for Tech with an 8-5 victory over Alex Bradley and Elja van Berlo.
In the singles matches, freshman Laura Fernandez defeated Alexus Coats (6-4, 6-2) at the No. 1 position while Barnard won at the No. 3 spot (6-2, 6-4) over Lanier.
Junior Alena Erofeyeva improved to 9-0 in dual matches with a victory at the No. 4 spot (6-2, 6-0) against Bradley. Zurek came away with a win (6-1, 7-6) over Moorea Williams in the No. 5 position.
In her first singles match of the spring, de Wit had a 6-3, 7-5 victory at the No. 6 spot over Bradley.
Southern Miss' only point came in the No. 2 match as van Berlo defeated ten Dolle in three-sets (2-6, 6-2, 6-3).
Louisiana Tech finishes their three-match homestand against UALR Sunday at 1 p.m.
