RUSTON - The road grind continues for Louisiana Tech this weekend as they conclude a seven-game road stretch with contests at UALR on Friday night at 7 p.m. and at Grambling State on Sunday at 1 p.m.

LA Tech (2-4-1) is beginning to find its groove offensively, scoring five goals total this past weekend versus in-state foes UL-Lafayette and McNeese State. In their previous five matches, the team only netted two goals combined.

"The team is improving," said head coach Kevin Sherry. "College soccer is a new and unique experience for so many on the team that we have to accept it will take time, but the good news is we are seeing improvements."

At the head of the frontline pack has been freshman striker Kathryn Sloan who, much like the rest of the squad, struggled to find the net in the first part of the season.

However, she came up with the game-winning goal versus Troy and continued her goal-making by netting three goals in her last four shot attempts.

While the offense has progressed, the defense has somewhat digressed. After only allowing four goals in the first five matches, including two shutouts, the backline gave up six goals in the last two due to mental errors in passing and technique.

"We are starting seven out of 10 outfield players as freshman," said Sherry. "There have been mistakes, but these freshmen are learning from it and you can see this in recent games."

Friday's match versus UALR (3-3) will be the fourth meeting between the two schools with the home team prevailing each time. Last season, LA Tech took a 1-0 victory over the Trojans on a rebounded goal by Emily Brennan in the second period.

The Trojans have already eclipsed last season's win total under new head coach Adrian Blewitt.

GSU (0-2) has suffered two lopsided defeats so far this season at UL-Monroe and at Arkansas State. Sunday's match against the Lady Techsters will be the home opener for the Lady Tigers.

"The constant road schedule is another challenge for this young team which will help them grow stronger," said Sherry. "This weekend will just be one more severe test which will challenge us and help in our development."

LA Tech has only three more matches in its non-conference schedule before they make play its first match in the much-anticipated Conference USA.
