RUSTON - JaQuan Jackson scored 19 points and Chrisstasia Walter added a double double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead Louisiana Tech to an 85-36 exhibition win over Mississippi College Saturday night at the Thomas Assembly Center.

The game marked the debut of first year head coach Tyler Summitt, who coached the Lady Techsters to the win with LA Tech legend and Hall of Fame coach Leon Barmore sitting in the stands.

"I think we made improvements in several areas," Summitt said. "It's great to go against a different team. I thought Mississippi College competed for the entire game, and I want to give them credit for that. I really saw us take strides in our offense, and we started trusting it. Once we trusted it, we executed it and it started working. Same thing with our defense. When all five players played hard, it worked well."

Tech shot 49 percent (32-of-65) from the field for the game while limiting the Choctaws to only 27 percent (13-of-48) shooting. The Lady Techsters forced 31 turnovers and outrebounded the Division II opponents 47-27. However, Summitt said he knows his team has a lot of room for improvement.

"The Lady Techster fans didn't see our defense tonight like we are capable of playing it; the energy and intensity like we can play with," Summitt said. "We have to hang our hat on defense and rebounding and that is what we have to work on."

From the opening tip, the Lady Techsters played with energy and effort. They shared the basketball. They played as a team. And even when they made mistakes, Summitt was happy with how they reacted.

"I thought they responded really well," Summitt said. "There were times we had to get on them, and you could see it. Our energy immediately picked up. What we want to get to as a coaching staff is a consistent level of energy. That's what we need."

Tech led 42-13 at the half.

Jackson, who was named to the Conference USA all-Freshman team last year, hit 8-of-14 shots on her way to a game-high 19 points in 26 minutes of play. Walter shot 6-of-9 from the field for her 17 points and added 10 rebounds, six assists and two steals. Whitney Frazer, a second team all-conference performer last year, added 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals.

"A balanced offense on the score sheet shows that we were unselfish tonight," Summitt said. "We didn't have very many selfish shots and I'm proud of the team for that."

Freshman Tiara Davenport and junior Brandi Wingate each added nine points while Kevione Moten scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds. Summitt substituted freely all night long as all nine players that dressed, played and scored for the Lady Techsters.

Ashley Minor led Mississippi College with 14 points.

Tech outscored MC 30-5 on points off of turnovers and 20-2 on second chance points.

Tech returns to action next Saturday when it hosts LSU-Alexandria at 6 p.m. in exhibition action.
