HUNTSVILLE, Alabama - Louisiana Tech will try to snap a two-game losing streak Saturday when the Lady Techsters travel to face Alabama A&M at 2 p.m. at T.M. Elmore Gym.
After opening the season with an impressive road win over defending Southland Conference champion Stephen F. Austin, LA Tech (1-2) dropped back-to-back decisions to Northwestern State and UL-Lafayette.
Head coach Tyler Summitt and Co. have struggled offensively during the two game skid, scoring only 57 and 55 points in the losses while shooting only 12-of-61 from the three-point line.
"We haven't handled the zones very well," Summitt said. "We must do a better job of attacking them, both on dribble penetration and on getting the basketball inside to our post players. We have had plenty of good looks from the outside, but we haven't shot it well. We simply can't make a living shooting three-pointers. We have to get better offensively against zones."
Sophomore JaQuan Jackson (13.3 ppg, 8-25 three-pointers) is Tech's lone double digit scorer thus far this season, followed by freshman Tiara Davenport (9.3 ppg, 71% FG), senior Kelia Shelton (9.3 ppg, 6.7 rpg), senior Chrisstasia Walter (8.7 ppg, 7.7 rpg), senior Whitney Frazier (8.0 ppg, 5.3 rpg) and senior Kanedria Andrews (7.3 ppg, 6-17 three-pointers).
Another area Tech must improve in is getting to the free throw line. Through the first three games, Tech has attempted only 34 free throws while its opponents have attempted 66.
Alabama A&M (0-4) enters the game following a 75-44 loss at Alabama on Wednesday night. The Lady Bulldogs are led by Brittney Strickland (17.3 ppg). Alabama A&M has losses to Southeast Missouri State, Murray State and Samford this year.
Tech leads the all-time series against the Lady Bulldogs 1-0 following an 81-51 victory in Ruston last season.
The contest can be heard on the LA Tech Sports Network on KNBB 97.7 FM (Ruston/Monroe) and KTKC 92.9 (Springhill) with the pregame show starting at 1:30 p.m.
