Shelton Named Conference USA POW

Jan. 12, 2015

RUSTON - For the second time this season Louisiana Tech senior Kelia Shelton claims the C-USA Women's Basketball Player of the Week award after leading LA Tech to a pair of wins.

Shelton led Louisiana Tech to wins over UTEP and UTSA, averaging 25.5 points and 7.0 rebounds, while shooting 48 percent from the field, 6-of-10 from the three-point line and 15-of-16 from the free throw line.

The senior tallied a game-high 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in only 22 minutes to lead Tech to a 90-72 win over UTEP Jan. 8, the Miners' only league loss this year.

Shelton scored 25 points in the first half to lead Tech to a 22-point advantage at the half, joining teammate Whitney Frazier and former LA Tech legend Sheila Ethridge as the only Lady Techsters to ever score 25 or more points in a half. The Rock Hill, South Carolina, native totaled 23 points - 17 in the first half - to lead the Lady Techsters to a five-point win over UTSA Jan. 10.

UTEP guard Lulu McKinney was named the C-USA Freshman of the Week.
